Local guide to Surfers Paradise
Famous for sun, surf and sand, the Gold Coast attracts millions of tourists from all over Australia and the world each year. Stretching along 57 kilometres of coastline, the Gold Coast is more than just beautiful beaches. Only 18 kilometres from the coast is a lush rainforest hinterland with stunning scenery.
In addition to a plethora of natural attractions, the Gold Coast is also home to world-class golfing greens, relaxing health retreats and constantly evolving theme parks including Seaworld, Dreamworld, Movie World and Wet 'n' Wild.
At the heart of the Gold Coast lies Surfers Paradise also famously known as the "Glitter Strip". This tourist mecca offers varied and memorable holiday experiences combing the iconic Australian beach culture with contemporary international entertainment.
Since 1991 Surfers Paradise has been host to the iconic Indy (now Vodafone Gold Coast 600) which has seen thousands of people descend on the city each year.
Another huge annual event is the Magic Millions Carnival staged at the Gold Coast Turf Club in Surfers Paradise. All the glitz and glamour of horse racing and the illustrious sales take over the Coast for 19 days in January.
Currently, The Cavill Mall redevelopment will soon be transformed to turn this shopping and dining strip into a more modern and vibrant environment, adding to the rejuvenation of Surfers Paradise.
